Karuk is described as a quiet, watchful presence, known for his careful and steady work. He approaches life---and others---with caution, shaped by the hardships that have left him slow to trust but deeply loyal to those who can earn his confidence. Though he keeps himself guarded, as he rarely speaks of his past. He expresses his care through action rather than words, tending to the needs of his tribe with quiet efficiency. He can be seen often lingering around camp, or around his adopted family. During gathering's he remains hard to be seen unless he wants his presence truly seen.Winter is something Karuk deeply hates. He tenses at the sound of howling wind, the return of winter is always met with unease, not anticipation; he prepares, he becomes more guarded than he usually is with a more urgency than most. This makes him become more withdrawn, skittish or bitter. When reacted to aggressively, his gaze remains firm. He becomes protective and tense, he may position himself to protect something vulnerable or valuable to him, he does not enjoy being cornered and will react if pressure is pushed. During communication it's better to speak to him with a calm manner, or soft toned. Remaining relaxed around Karuk is what he looks for, as he watches your every move to protect himself.Trust never came easy, not after Karuk lost his family. Karuk still hesitates anytime a newcomer approaches or is welcomed, every instinct urging him to keep his distance. But he remembered the kindness that was shown to his mother and him, and tries to be welcoming, though his guard is always up.Often Karuk's first reaction was to handle it alone, only allowing help and support from those he trust most. It takes a lot to gain his trust and it doesn't come easily. He often struggles to still bring up or discuss what he'd lost that night, memories often crept back, and he withdrew into himself. Though Karuk struggles, he's learning slowly, to give others a chance, but with a cautious step.

Around Karuk's neck hangs a carefully crafted necklace, each bead unique and rich with meaning. Some are smooth river stones, polished by years of water and time; others are carved from pale bone, etched with delicate skygod and tribe symbols. Others unique with painted bioluminescence, carefully resourced. He often is seen carrying a pouch for resources, with a knife holder to his right upper leg, carefully wrapped from fur and leather. On cold winters he has a warm fur pelt with black leather, with a white ring of fur at the top and edges.

Karuk was born into a small, tightly knit family living deep in the Snowbank Tundra, far from others. Their homes were built carefully to shelter from the frost-bitten wind. His tribe valued kinship and the spiritual bond with the sky gods. One winter, a severe blizzard struck the camp early. Already struggling on rations, the night only got worse. A desperate band of outsiders--driven by hunger and the threat of death--found their camp. The tribe welcomed the strangers despite the hardship, sharing what little they had.But on that night, fear, desperation, and starvation eroded trust. Food was running low, and there were too many mouths to feed; the resources were low. No one heard a thing over the howling, bitter wind. Quietly, they decided what they must do, slipping through the blurry snow, they turned on the sleeping tribe. Karuk was the only pup when it happened. Karuk's mother who shielded him from the violence, was gravely wounded. Karuk was bundled and carried through the snow, his mother determined to save him, even as their own strength was fading.They made it as far as Skullgarde, the nearest tribe they knew they could trust, before collapsing at the gates, Skullgarde brought them in. His mothers wounds were too severe to recover and she succumbed to death, not before entrusting him to the care of the Skullgarde tribe. Karuk was scarred from the pain and loss that never left him.

Amka is where Karuk's trust lies, where his secrets are buried, and where he feels like he can be himself. Amka is his current and only mate, they're relationship is built on a lot of trust, Amka gives Karuk the will to breathe and feel less fearful, understanding his fears, while nurturing and helping him grow from them, while Karuk helps Amka enjoy her life, while fathering her pups from a former unknown sire. Karuk is her protector and guardian, and he takes great honor of being the father to her two young pups.

Childhood Best Friend

During the time Karuk had made his appearance in Skullgarde, he had met Upesi, both were inseparable partners in crime, teasing the adults, shared secrets and unhurried days. Upesi is a spike of energy, this can sometimes make Karuk suspicious and unsure of his surroundings even more. Upesi has a lot of energy and can sometimes be too much for Karuk, but on days Karuk needs it, Upesi helps him loosen up and have fun.

His Leader and Father Figure

Karuk and TBN have a complicated relationship, while TBN has to play the part as a leader, he also became Karuk's father figure. TBN is firm and strict, he is intense when it comes to safety and mistakes are something he doesn't take lightly, which can be incredibly hard on Karuk seeing as he was not born inside Skullgarde and does not know the ways they've grown and learn. As it makes TBN nervous.. Karuk looks up to him highly.

Adopted Daughter (Amka's Pups)

Ookpik and Serkan are the sol pups from Amka, from a previous sire Amka was with. They later lost their father as his life was taken. Karuk has adopted these pups. Both pups originate from a small tribe known as PoisenSpear, a tribe deeply buried in the jungle biome. They had travelled a long ways when other tribes were out to harm them. Later stumbling upon Skullgarde, where Karuk invited them in.
